It will take many years to bring white sturgeon populations back to a healthy number, and the costs will be significant. A number of organizations have already committed financial and in-kind support towards the Recovery Initiative, and the list is growing. The Upper Columbia White Sturgeon Recovery Initiative started in the summer of 2000, with operational costs exceeding one million dollars each year. These costs reflect research programs, hatchery operations and white sturgeon fish culture, and administration of the Recovery Team and the Action Planning Group. It is critical that funding is available each year to implement ongoing and new projects to ensure the upper Columbia white sturgeon have a good chance of survival. Your financial contribution will help support research, public education, and other efforts.
